If you think that the bible is the inerrant, inspired word of god, why do you feel that way?
I got my bachelor's and master's degrees in classics, reading Greek and Latin. I understand the details of how ancient texts were transmitted and how the Bible came to be what it is in English today. I have a copy of the Greek New Testament, and at the bottom of each page is an apparatus criticus, which is a set of abbreviated notes on the differences in other manuscripts. I think if your average fundie Christian saw an apparatus criticus, he'd probably start the five stages of grief, beginning with denial, of course. Since English Bibles are translations of edited texts, I find it amusing when some preacher focuses on one word or phrase with no idea what the original texts say. They are invariably wrong about their interpretations because, quite frankly, they're ignorant.
