Can you apply for credit during a credit dispute?

I filed a dispute with the credit bureau. The credit bureau ask that I not apply for credit during this 30 day period. Can I apply for credit anyway and if so would it interfere with my dispute results. I have a credit card offer that I would love to accept, and I have to apply within 14 days.
